NOTICE. OPENING OF THE SUMNER ROAD. ON MONDAY next, the 24th instant, a procession will be formed to proceed from Lyttelton along the Sumner Road, to meet his Honor the Superintendent and the procession from Christchurcb, and to join in the ceremony on the occasion of opening that road. The procession will leave the Universal Hotel on MONDAY Morning, at ten o'clock. August 21st, 1857. WEEKLY SALE OF MERCHANDISE ! BY AUCTION. MR. ALPORT begs to announce that he will hold a PUBLIC AUCTION WEEKLY, at his Auction Rooms, for the sale of General Merchandise, The first sale will take place on WEDNESDAY, 2nd SEPTEMBER, to consist of Sugars, teas, wine, beer, spirits, tobacco, coffee, rice, oilman's stores, rope, ash oars, mould candles, salt fish, drapery, and miscellaneous goods.
