The Spray has brought down from Sydney a cargo of horses. She lands about twenty-six, having lost eight. The passage has been protracted to the extent of 28 days, Captain Scott having put into Pelorus and Port Underwood, meeting head winds in the Straits. The live stock are, however, in very good condition. Captain Scott reports that he has met with nothing lbut very light airs on his passage down. It' is worthy of remark that the bng Dart, which left Sydney six days before the Spray, and passed through precisely the same weather as far as the coast of New Zealand, contrived to make this port in sixteen days, coming south about; though thick weather kept her out for several days longer. It is pretty well proved that the southerly route from Sydney and that through the Straits to Sydney make the quickest passages during the four winter months, and vice versd during the remainder of the year. The Robert and Betsy has accomplished her loading in an unusually short space of time. She arrived in this port on Wednesday, the stli instant, from Dunedin, with short of half a cargo which she had received during a stay of about two months in that port. In seven days she completed her loading and was under way for Melhourne a full ship. Her cargo is reported above, and is one more instance of the practical advantage to farmers in the opening up of a Melbourne trade, in furnishing a new market for their produce. There are no vessels for New Zealand advertised in the Sydney papers.
