SALE BY AUCTION.

Mr. Alport held a sale afc Messrs. J. T. Peacock & Co.'s stores on Wednesday last.. The number of buyers present during the day was inconsiderable, the fulness of the stores being the cause of the absence of many retailers. The goods offered were of a very miscellaneous nature, comprising all kinds of oilman's stores, groceries, sundry articles of household furniture and draperies. The following were about the average of the prices : —Pyrmont sperm candles realized Is. 4d. to Is. 6d. per lb.; bottled fruits, 12s. to 15s. per doz.; Whybrow's pickles, 7s. per doz. A small lot of American hams, 9|d. perlb.; soap', Liverpool and Sydney, and salad oil were put up, but did not find buyers. Tea, in canisters, was sold at from 50s. to 555. per case of 481b5.; ground coffee Bd., .raw do. 9d. ; currants, 6|d. to Bd.; muscatel raisins, Is. to Is. 2d.; dried apples, 7d.; rice, 2|d.; cocoa, 10|d.; ground ginger, B|d. to lOd.; split peas, 2d. to 2|d. Large mahogany framed toilet glasses fetched from 30s. to 475.6 d. each; canebacked rocking chairs, 305.; japanned do., 225.; a cheffonier, with plate glass panelled doors and what-not top, 605.; ■ small mahogany work tables, 10s. to 20s. each; nests of 8 tubs, 355. Several lots of first-class crockery, consisting of breakfast and tea ware and a dinner service, found.no purchasers, though offered at very low prices. A few hundred-weight of onions were sold at from If d. to 2|d. per tb. A saddle and appurtenances fetched £2 12s. 6d., and a few lots of wagon whips from 245. to 30s. per doz. Of the drapery goods, such only as were of a seasonable character were in demand, and sold readily at fair prices. Another extensive auction sale by Messrs. R. Waitt & Co., to have taken place on Monday, has been postponed, in consequence of the inclemency of the weather.
