The Lyttelton Times.
Wednesday, July 29. The Superintendent and Council were dissolved by a proclamation of Ins Excellency, dated the 14th inst., and writs have come down for the new election. We understand however, that the election of the Superintendent will not come off for three months, as time must be given for the formation and revising of Electoral Rolls in the Districts, established by the new Provincial Council Extension Ordinance, which has received the Governor's assent. According to the Constitution Act, the Council cannot he elected until after the election of the Superintendent. As the public generally are not acquainted with the new state of things consequent on the present law, we will take an early opportunity of affording all the infor. mation in our power. It is of the utmost importance that a full registration of voters should take place in the districts, and that such registration should be carefully watched. The imperfect state of the present roll i* notorious. Unqualified persons have votes in many cases, whilst duly qualified persons have not registered. The present opportunity should not be lost sight of by those who are anxious to secure a proper representation.
