THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT of the Province of Canterbury in New Zealand, being desirous of establishing a regular Postal Communication between Melbourne and Lyttelton, is prepared to pay the undernamed sums to the Master of any vessel bringing down the English Mail from Melbourne, and taking a mail back to Melbourne to meet the English Steamers, ■subject to the following conditions: — 1. That the Master shall produce a certificate from the Post Office authorities ut Melbourne stating that he applied for the mail immediately on the arrival of the English Mail Steamer. 2. That he shall produce a similar certificate stating the day and hour upon which the mail is put on board his vessel. '3. That he shall sail from Lyttelton with the return mail to Melbourne as soon as he conveniently can, and shall not, unless compelled by stress of weather, call at any intermediate port either coming or returning. The sums to be paid will be as follows:— For bringing down the Mails and delivering them .to the Post Office authorities at Lyttelton. Within 9 days from the time the Mails are put on Board at Melbourne £170 Do. 11 do. do 150 Do. 13 do. do 120 Do. 15 do. do 70 Do. 18 do. do 40 Do. 20 do. do 10 An additional sum of £30 will be paid if the return Mail be delivered at Melbourne in time for the second English Mail steamer leaving after the Mail brought down. AFTER the 6th July next, the Ordinary Sittings of this Court will be as follows.: ■— For the District of Christchurch,-— At the Land Office, Christchurch, every Wednesday, at 11 a.m. For the District of Lyttelton,— At the Police Office, Lyttelton, every Friday, at 11 a.m., excepting the Friday following the first Thursday in the month.
