VICTORIA.
We find the following in the S.M. Herald of June 28 :—
Flour is held by first hands, in large parcels, which are held with tolerable firmness for an advance. For nearly two months we have been without shipments from the United States and Chili, and this had rendered holders of colonial grain desirous of raising the price, altogether irrespective of the quantities coming forward, and of those in the hand of agriculturists. What may be the course of this market, it is impossible to predict: should supplies come in from the west coast of America prices will be kept steady at about our present quotations until the next colonial harvest is ready for the millers, but should no extra colonial shipments find their way to this port during the next month, speculation is likely to send the prices of this article np very considerably. Geain.—There is no wheat in the market, except colonial, which is now selling at from Bs. to 9s. per bushel of 60 lbs. In horsefeed there has been continued speculation, and oats have been sold as high as 17s. per bushel of 401bs. Scotch are now dull M lls. to 11s. 6d., and Van Diem en's Land, at 13s. 6d. Maize is now coming more freely into consumption, and increasing supplies .are expected from New South Wales.— Prices Current, June 24.
