NAPLES.

ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE THE KINO. Naples, 9th December. When 1 wrote to you yesterday, I little thought at that moment a scene was enacting on the Campo Marso, which all good men must regret and condemn. The ceremony of benediction had just concluded, and the troops were defiling before his Ma.*, jesty previous to their leaving the giound, when, as the 4th division of ihe third battalion of Chas-, seurs was passing, a soldier named Agesilao Milano, of San Benedetto, in the province of Cozenza, darted out of the ranks, as if, in the opinion of some, to present a petition. He then made a thrust with his bayonet at his Majesty, who backed his horse, and the bayonet, grazing the side of the King, struck against the pistol holster,'and was bent. The man slipped, and fell to the .ground. At that moment captain Datour,.one of the Hussars, riding up, nearly crushed the man, whilst another captain, riding out of the ranks, collared him. The I^ing said," Consign him to the gendarmes ;" and he was taken off the ground in a cab, accompanied by gendarmes. In the evening General Nunziante, Prefect of Police, and Lieutenant-General Lecca, Inspector of Brigade, were called upon to interrogate the man, who demanded paper, saying that he would write his deposition. It was as follows:—- ---" For six years I have cherished a hatred against Ferdinand 11. I belong to the class of insurgents in Calabria, in the. year 1848. It was my intention to purge the earth of this monster. I have not the slightest intention of revealing the names of my brethren who conspjre like me to rid the world of this tyrant ; but the occasion will came when their daggers -will avenge all."

A despatch receivel at Paris, from Naples, mentions that an explosion of the powder magazine near the King's palace had taken place,' which was the result of a plot.

• A letter from Naples in the ' Siecle' says:— "The soldier who attempted to kill the King was a Oalabrian, and had studied in a college for priests. It appears so.far back as 1848 heresolved to kill the King in consequence of the sufferings which Calabria had endured, and of the wrong done in the man's own family. To effect his purpose he abandoned his religious career,'and ten months ago enlisted in the army. The King was saved by the resistance of a coat of mail (unamaglia di ferro), which he always wears. The shock was so violent that it caused (he soldier to fall backwards, but he immediately jumped up to recover his weapon: it was then that he was seized."

The soldier who attempted to assassinate the King, was hanged on the 13th Dec. : All is quiet.
