WELLINGTON. The past week has been very barrou in commercial incidents. The only public sale of importance was one held by Messrs. Johnson and Co., on Tuesday, but atwhichalthough the attendance of buyers was good, there was buta mo"derate amount of bubiness done, and for some articles low prices were submitted to. "Tea in chests sold at about jtb J7s. 6d., and in catty boxes at 28s, Cossipore sugar at s|d., and Mauritius ditto at 4£d. per ft. "We have also learnt that Messrs. R. J. Duncan and Co. have sold, during the week—privately—about 900 bushels of Canterbury wheat at 7s. 6d. to 8s per bushel. From the large harvest that we believe the farmers on the Canterbury Plains have been favoured with, we may expect to have many .more suoh sales to lecord, bat while it is gratifying to observe that there is an inter-provincial trade growing up, we still think that our settlers should bestir themselves, oo that "Wellington should not be left dependent upon a sister province for its supplies of breadstuffs. _ The Ann Wilson has brought but,a very small, cargo, and calls ] for no remark in a commercial point of view.— Spectator, April 4.
