The Lyttelton Times

Wednesday, March 18th. The greatest inconvenience is already .experienced owing to the want both in Lyttelton and Christchurch of any acting ResU dent Magistrate. Many important cases; in which a Resident Magistrate alone can act, go altogether unattended to. At Kaiapoi, justice appears to be entirely suspended, no Court having been held there since the 9th Jannary last. We trust that the authorities who are to blame for this state, of things will be brought to account in the next session of tho General Assembly. In the despatch of official business, the existing General Government seem to be as inefficient as their much abused predecessors, the nominees of Sir George Grey. On the 20th December last, an addition, long needed, was mad£ to the commission of the peace for this province. Up to the present time, however, the document, a few lines in . length, which is required from the General Government "loenable-the .new -Justices to enter upon their duties, has not made its appearance. We shall, doubtless, have to wait for it until the next arrival of the steamer, some three months x after the issue of the commission.
