Colonial.

WELLINGTON. Papers to the 18th contain little news of importance from this province. Another loan of £25,000 is proposed by the Government for public works, for four special purposes; the erection of a lighthouse, at the cost of £10,000, being one of them. This loan makes the aggregate amount proposed in this one session to be borrowed by the province £125,000. A rather lengthy address to her Majesty was adopted, complaining of the inconvenience of the law which gives all power in native matters to the Governor, and earnestly praying the Queen "in virtue of the powers conferred by the constitution Act, to delegate to your Majesty's Superintendent of this province the powers of accepting conveyances or agreements, releases or relinquishments from the aboriginal natives within the limits of our province, in terms of the 73rd clause of the Constitution Act of this colony." ■ The "Independent," -in an article entitled 'Clipper Ships,'takes as a text the following table of the duration of the voyages of the ships last arrived in Wellington:— . Hastings, from London, 134 days out. - Mariner, from Londqn, 135 days out. Philip Lang, from London, H7 days out. Rose of Sharon, from London, 10.5 days out. Mynle, fronvLondon, 120 days out. Oliver Lang, from Liverpool, S6 days out. Indian Queen, from Liverpool, 87 days out. and, anticipating the establishment of a line of auxiliary steam clippers to New Zealand, urges therefrom Messrs. Willis and Co. and Young and Co., who have steadily and regularly kept up the trade during times of difficulty, to maintain their position now, by laying on superior yessels to meet the requirements of the passenger trade. From Wangamii we have two later papers, . but they contain nothing of interest.
