PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS, by an Ordinance of the Lieutenant-Governor and Legisla,tive Council of New Zealand, entituled " The *rnw Importation' Ordinance,' Session VI, JNo. fiTwas enacted that it should be lawful for tin Governor to make provision for regelating !"j restricting the Importation and Sale ot Ti Gunpowder, and other Warlike stores Akd WmU by a like„ Ordinance entitled "The Arms Ordinance," Session TONo. 18, it was enacted that no person should make, construct, amend, or repair any Arms, Gunpowder or other warlike Stores without a License, to be for that purpose granted by, or under th c authority of his Excellency the Governor : A n d Wjiebeas, by an Ordinance passed "by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entituled " The Empowerin? Ordinance, Session 11, No. 2," the powers conferred on the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand by the above recited Ordinances were, \v"'t liin the Province of Canterbury, conferred on the Superintendent of the said Province : And Whereas his Honor the Superintendent of the said Province of Canterbury did, by a Proclamation, bearing date the tenth day of September, 1855, in pursuance oT the powers vested in him by the aforesaid Ordinances, issue Regulations for the importation, and sale of gunpowder, arms, and other warlike stores into, or within, the said Province : And Whereas it is expedient that certain of such Regulations should be altered, and certain restrictions remov,ed,.within the said Province : NOW, therefore, I, James E.lwaid Pitz Gerald, the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of 'the powers invested in me by the above-mentioned Ordinances, and of all other powers in that behalf enabling me, Do hereby proclaim and declare, that from and after the ' day of the date hereof, the Regulations under clauses 6 .and 7 of thp said Proclamation, shall be void and of none effect, and that the following shall stand and be of force in lieu thereof —that is to say : — Licenses authorising the sale, making', and repairing of arms, and licenses for the sale of ammunition will be issued for one yeaiy upon condition only that every person holding a license for the sale of ammunition resident within the towns of Christchurch, Lyttelton, Akaroa, and Kaiapoi shall make a return on the first day'of every week, to be left with the Clerk to the Resident Magistrate's Court, setting forth the quantity of gunpowder then lying in his store, and every such person failing to make such return shall forfeit'his license. Given under my hand, and sealed with the public seal of the Province of Canterbury at Clnistehurch, this seventeenth day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven.
