Abhived, Feb. 7, 1857, the French ship General Tesie, Captain Lemcrcier, of and from the port of Havre, with 340 barrels, 120 sperm, 220 whale oil, whence she sailed on the 18th of August, 185G, crossed the line on the 26th September, in 260 W. of meridian of Paris. On October 16, spoke the " U.S. barque Hannah Brewer, of New London, 293 tons, Captain Smith, (Perkin and Smith, Agents) 25 months out, 900 barrels whale oil. October 25, in lat.-350 23' S, 110 W. lon., spoke the U.S. barque Caroline, of Green Port, 252 tons, Captain Chase (Wells and Carpenter, Agents), 22 months out, 400 barrels whale oil. October 26, in lat. 35 S., 120 W. long., spoke the Thomas Drewer, English merchant ship, from Newcastle to India, with coals, 65 days out. November 13, in lat. 36 S., 8 long. W., spoke the i U.S. ship Timor, of Sag-harbour, 280 tons, ; Uptain Chase (Hunting Cooper, Agent). November 14, lat. 36 S., 6 W. long., spoke the L.-S. barque Pearl, of New London, 195 tons, j Upiam Porayth, (Williams & Haven Agents), ■MX) barrels whale oil. December 15, 1at."38 S., too X bug., spoke the U.S. barque Columbus, mr-n- CW Bedfo«l. 313 tons, Captain Taylor, 'William 11. Redman, Agent), 5 months out, 1 sperm whale, 1 right whale. December 22, lat •>« X 76 E. long., spoke the U.S. barque Isabella <>f N ew Bedford, 315 tons, Captain Jjvons (Thomas Knowles & Co., Agents), 16 yths out, 12 right whales. January 5, lat. b ? 125 B. long., spoke the French ship vaulamcourt, of Havre, 658 tons, Captain LaJaste (Messrs. Guillot & Co., Agents). Off the j'nares, m sight of the land, spoke the U.S.' »wque Martha, of New Bedforf, 34 months out.
Captaia. and Agent's name unknown, had- sent home from Ochotsk sea 1,000 barrels; had. 600 barrels on board, and taken 5 rightwhales off the Snares. N.B. All the above longitudes are calculatedfrom the meridian of Paris. Sailed, on "Wednesday, 11th instant, the French ship Napoleon 111., of Havre, 704 tons, Captain Bartholomew. Morel,, for the South Seas, ■ (Guillot & Co., Agents). Crew all on board. Captain Lucas, of the brig Louisa, in Pigeon Bay, 3rd instant, reports to have communicated off Pitt's Island, on the 27th December, with the U.S. ship Kensington, 357 tons, Captain Clark, of New Bedford, 50 months out, 1,200 barrels sperm, and 70 of whale oil. AH well. The Mountain Maid left Sydney Jan. 19, for Nelson and Wellington.
