LYTTJ3LTON TOWN HALL. At a public meeting licld on Wednesday evening last, the alterations proposed by the Provincial Government in the mode of tenure by which the public enjoy the use of this building were finally submitted to the subscribers by the Trustees. The proposals in question had'been submitted to a previous public meeting, and have already been explained in our columns. At' a conference between the members of the Government and the Trustees on the 9Ui of January, a memorandum of the proposed change was drawn up in express terms, which, being afterwards formally approved of by the Goveri" ment, was transmitted with plans Sec, lor the decision of a public meeting. Dr. Donald, who occupied the chair, explained the shite of the negotiations io the meeting, read the correspondence, and exhibited the plans referred to. Considerable discussion arose as to tlie person in whom should be vested the power of granting or refusing the use of the hall. Exception was also taken to a point of detail in the plan submitted, in whu-h two chimneys appeared, diminishing the interior area of the hall. The following resolutions were finally agreed to unanimously :—
: 1. Moved by Mr, Ward and seconded by Mr; LaTTEK,. ..;■::• ; ..-'■.":. '■ ■ .:■ '" That the change of tenure and other alterations:..in the .Town Hall proposed by" the Government, as. expressed in the memorandum of the 9th of January,are generally satisfactory to this meeting." 2. Moved by Mr. A. J. Alport and seconded by Mr. Stout, " That it is undesirable that any encroachment he made upon the area of the' Town Hull, as shown by the chimneys in the plan of alteration submitted by the Government." 3. Moved by Mr. H. E. Alpout and seconded by Mr. Davis^ " That this meeting dooms it of the utmost importance that a provision be inserted in the deed of release., vesting in the Trustees of the Town Hall the power of letting the building for lectures, concerts, balls, and other purposes, as heretofore, having due regard to avoid interfering with Government business." 4i. Moved by Mr. Willcox and seconded by Mr. Wright, "That if four of the Trustees areagreed in any negotiation for carrying out the transfer, power be given them to conclude the arrangements without calling any further public meeting." 5. Moved by Mr. Wright and seconded by ■Mr. .Willcox, . " That the thanks of this meeting be rcon-^ veyed to the Trustees for the manner in which the Town Hall arrangements have been carried out." ; ■ ■ "'■-■•/"■' ."■■ '•'■: ': :■'■"■'.'• The meeting then separated.
