French and English squadron was in the Mediterranean, and it was reported: that the English Fleet under Admiral Dundas had sailed. _ Italy was in a frightful state of disorganization, and the note of warlike preparation was sounding through the length and breadth of the Peidmontese States. The O'Donnel ascendency in Spain is numbered with the things that were. The Duke of Valencia (Narvaez)/having been recalled, was honoured with such particular attention from royalty at a ball, given at the Escurial, that O'Donnell resigned in disgust, and it was rumoured that his.colleagues had followed his example. The Russians had suffered two defeats at the hands of the Circassians, under Sefur Pacha. Their loss is stated to have been immense. The colossal Steam-ship, the Great Eastern, would in all probability be ready for launching in April. Lord Earnest Vane, and Mr. W. J. Birt, corners in the Fourth Light Dragoons, had been tried by court-martial for, disorderly conduct at Brighton, and dismissed from the service.

We subjoin extracts from the late papers :— The foreign news is not of any great moment. It is expected that "on Wednesday the note of the allies would be communicated by Baron Brenier to the King of Naples. The repeated assurance^ is given that the note in question is couched in very moderate and humble terms. The effect no one supposes will be what France and England desire—namely, compliance with the earnest admonitions addressed by them to King Ferdinand. The instructions to Baron Brennier are, that if his Majesty persists in refusing, he is to demand his passports, and withdraw the whole of his legation, Similar instructions have no doubt been sent to the British minister. With respect to the fleets, it is stated that the French squadron willl proceed to Malta to join the British, and that both will await there the result of the last note and final answer of the King; and if it prove, as is anticipated, unfavourable, they are then to proceed towards but not to the Italian coast. On this point, however, there exists some difference; yet it is evident that ships must be at hand to receive such French and British residents as may not consider it safe to stay after the departure of their respective legations. It is, however, believed that the consequences will be pacific—at any rate, that nothing will be done to "provoke a revolution either in Sicily or Naples. By Constantinople letters of the Bth inst., we are informed that the last accounts from the Isle of Serpents state that the Russians have still there one officer, a surgeon, and five soldiers. Three English vessels of war are at anchor off the island. The Turkish vessels which brought this news conveyed back the engineer and workmen who had been employed in establishing the lighthouse. Experiments as to the lighting had been made and were found perfectly satisfactory. The lights in the Sulina are visible at the Isle of Serpents, and vice versa. These lighthouses are of great benefit to navigation, as the Sulina can now be entered at night with perfect security. From Ireland we learn that the indictment found against James Sadlier, by the Tipperary grand jury, has been forwarded to the Crown officer in Dublin, and that the writ of ceriiorari has been obtained for removing the proceedings into the Court of Queen's Bench. The idea, however, of the interesting fugitive surrendering before the ensuing term and putting himself upon his country is treated as the most palpable of canards. What ulterior steps may be in the contemplation of the Attorney-General must, in an exceptional criminal case of this kind, be purely conjectural, but the general speculation is, that all the necessary legal forms have been resorted to to: induce the culprit to take his trial, and all failing-—as no doubt they will—Parliament will step in and measures will be taken for Sadlier's formal expulsion from the House of Commons. Being thus an outlaw and a fugitive from justice, his property would be confiscated, and, the Crown consenting, might be sold for the benefit of the Tipperary Banl? dupes.
