NELSON.
It affords us great satisfaction to be able to announce that the conveyance of an overland mail to theWairau, every fortnight, is to be resumed, and, in addition, a small vessel, on the arrival of thg vessel at the Beaver Station, will start for Wellington, so that a regular communication between Nelson arid Wellington once a fortnight, will also be established, independently of the monthly communication maintained by the ' Zingari,' and the chance afforded by sailing vessels trading between these respective ports. The contracts for this service have been taken until June next, and will be provided for out of a vote of the House of Representatives of the last session, but the expense of the inter provincial Pervice must thereafter be borne by the Provincial Governments. The first mail for the Wairau under the new contract will be despatched to-day, and bags will be left in the Wairau Valley, at the Beaver Station, and at Mr. M'Rae's in the Awatere. We hope that our Cour.cil, when it comes to deal with the subject of postal service, will endeavour to extend its operations to the Amuri and Canterbury, and we have little doubt but that the Council of the latter province will, if applied to, join in bearing a part of the expense of this portion of the undertaking, — Nelson Examiner.
