. Tni. Queen in Scotlvnp.—Her Majesty. t^n her w.rv to R.dmorul, stayed in Edinburgh for the day on the 29th of August. Her presence kept the whole city on the gui rirc. Thousands thronged the parks in hope of a review, and Thousands more perambulated the streets and gazed from the windows in hopes to ,-^eo Her M:>je>ty pas*. The military wore ready 5o turn out should a review be commanded, and the officials at the different public buildings had nude every preparation for a Royal visit, but Hor Majesty's desire to spend the day in privacy disappointed the general expectation. The Royal cortege continued their journey on ihe following day. and arrived at Balmoral on tlw 30:h. at 7 o'clock in the evening.
The death of Mr. G. A. A'Beeket, the wellknown popular wriu-r and police magistrate, is announced at Boulogne on the 31st of August.
