Installation or the Bishop of Chkistchtjrch.—Before divine service on the morning of Thursday, Christmas day, the ceremony of installing the new Bishop took place at Christchurch. Mr. Gresson, who as Notary-P üblic, read the proper documents, and the Archdeacon of Akaroa then declared Bishop Harper duly installed. Most of the clergy of the diocese were present at the ceremony. Bishop Harper preached a most impressive sermon upon the occasion, and Bishop Selwyn assisted at the service. The church was thronged some time before the commencement of the service ; and the number of the communicants was nearly one hundred and fifty. Colonial.—The Canterbury brings us papers from Wellington to the 2.oth instant, froml Wanganui to the 18th, and from Taranaki to the 13th. The Oliver Lang had arrived in Wellington, from Liverpool, 85 days out. Some of the news brought by her, which is to the 24th September, we give in another column. The Philip Laing is reported to have arrived also, after a passage of more than 140 days. Arrivals from Sydney had brought the Marco Polo's mails of the sth September from England, our portion of which has come down to us. Sydney papers are to the 9th. instant. The reported arrival of the Governor of Victoria, which we quoted from the ' Wellington Independent' a few days ago, with a caution, turns out to be incorrect. By the Spray, from Nelson, we have copies of the ' Examiner' to the 20th instant. We are obliged to deter notices and extracts of news from all these quarters for the present.
