Skumoks and Oiuhkatiox by tttk Bishop of New Ziulajcix—A sermon in aid of the Melanosian Mission was preached in the temporary Church at-Lyttelton, on Sunday morning last, by the Lord Bishop of New Zealand. The eloquent discourse, interesting from the personal narrative of the Bishop's own exertions in the Missionary cause was rendered more impressive from the ceremony which followed of admitting j to priest's orders the Ilex. Leonard Williams, son of Archdeacon Win. Williams of Turanga, who with his brother, came to this country thirty years ago, the first ordained missionaries to the then savage New Zealanders. His Lordship remarked that Mr. Williams, the present candidate for ordination, was born in the same year in which the first conversion to Christianity occurred, fifteen years after the first efforts had been made for that end. He showed further how from that beginning the gospel had \ spread over* New Zealand, and from New Zealand 1a? a centre it might be expected to spread by native agency over the multitude of the Pacific Islands, even though the noxious climates and the diversified languages of the majority of them were fearful impediments in the way of a European. The Rev. L. Williams preached in .the evening for the same object; the two collections amount to £21. 3s. 3d. The Bishop of New Zealand preached at Governor's Bay in the afternoon.
