ARRIVAL OF SIR H. BARKLY, THE NEW GOVERNOR. AT MELBOURNE.
We find the following in the ' Wellington Independent' of ihe 13th,but are unable to confirm it from any Australian papers which we have received. His Excellency the acting Governor having Issued a proclamation closing all public offices, and on ihe 20th inviting all parties to close then- houses of business, to afford an opportunity for all so disposed to meet for the purpose of invoking the divine blessing on the deliberations of the Houses of Legislature, which are -called together for the first time the 21st of November, the shops, warehouses, Sec. are shut, but great numbers have found, their way to the race-course ratker than to church, and the news of the arrival of the Tribune with the Governor General on board, has aroused a good deal of speculation. People are wondering whether the new Governor will at once enter on the functions of bis office, and open parliament in person, or allow the Acting Governor to do so. There is no talk of any ceremonial to welcome his Excellency, but doubtless some way would be adopted of giving him welcome. He was not expected so soon, and any arrangements for meeting him on his arrival bad not been talked about.
