To the Editor of the Lyllelton Times. Sir. — Would it not be a great convenience to the Public, if our worthy P.M., when posting "" Letters not sorted." would state the time they would be ready for delivery. Yours obediently, .Mkkcatok. Lyttelton. Dec. 15. 185 G.
ITo (he Editor of Ila Lyltellon Times. I May I rccfuest you to insert the following ' extract from Messrs. Willis, Gain) Sc Co.'s ! letter to the undersigned, slated I.9th August ■ last, as I fear from .«o:ise opinions expressed \in «i private letter from Mr. God!t;y, and | extracts from which anpo!r"d in your jour- | mil of the (iih instant, some very incorrect ! iinprctjsi'iijs may h'* received as to the ability ; and anxiety of that linn to furl fun, by every ! means, a regular and eflidonl supply of j emi^ranip to shis province. "The 'Ej^mont' will get away, we hope, ! punctually on the Bth proximo. She takes out S i)r. Harper, now the duly eouseeraUid Bishop of I ChrisLeliuroh, and nvujibvii'inj^ kuhic thirty-five j chiei'-cabin, and a hundred and twenty steera^o i pasßiiiigcrs-—among the former Mr. Ilarman
and his family. Wo very much fear from what Mr. Barman tolls us thai {or.some time to cotno we must expect a total, nr almost tot.d cessation ■of this, to the .settlement. all-ini}jott:ml ingredient of continued mic<v..<. Mr. if.irinan is sanguine that his returning to the colony may be conducive to some permanent improvement; on former arrangements. We think so too, and during his absence, we have offered to continue the oiHee nt Charing Cross and all tho machinery in working order until we learn whether he can return to resume operations next; year. Wo shall be glad if you will do all you can* to concert measures with him. To show* the wish we have to assist the colony in this essential point of labour, we are taking- the hundred adults on board the 'Egmont' with no other stipulation as to payment than that wo are to be reimbursed from the first funds which maybe available for emigrrtion purposes, :dl the means the colony at present possesses having been exhausted by previous shipments. &c." Trusting, Mr. Kditor, you will give publication to the foregoing extract'as an net of justice at once to the lamented 11. H, Willis, (whose demise is intimated in a letter of the same date) than whom no man livins'.gifan seek or wish more prosperity to New Zealand, and to the slightly altered firm whose zealous efforts will be perscveringly devoted to help onward the increase and welfare of this province, I am, as always, Yours truly, " R. LATTER. Lyltelton, Dec. 16, 1856.
