MORETON BAY.

Sepabation of Moeeton Bay.—As stated in our: ■contemporary-yesterday, morning, letters have been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, announcing- the intention of ■the British Government forthwith to take the necessary steps for the erection of the Northern district into a separate colony. We believe nothing beyond the simple fact has been communicated ; but it is expected that despatches with full instructions on the subject will arrive by the mail of the sth July. Probably the ■truest explanation of this hasty, step would be found in a desire on the part-of the Imperial authorities to have the grace of yielding what they foresee will be forced from them in a short time by the force of agitation.— Empire Sep. 16.
