The principal item of intelligence from Xcv South VVabs Ls ih-i resignation'of the Donaldson Minintrv, and the formation o!' one by Mr. Cowper. On Thursday, the 21st ulto*, Mr. iJontildson announced that,in consequence of the divisions of last week and of Wednesday ni^-ht, the Government felfc it to be their duty to tender their resignations to tlie Governor-General; and he accordingly moved that the House should jidjoura till Tuesday next, at ?> o'clock. Mr. Dor/all seconded the motion. Mr. jJurray iv^ivlied the step the Gover-i:.:..;i;t had taken, ,'ts btfing likely to cause oo:i;i';derable inconvenience to the country. At the same time he accused Ministers oi" a want of liberality in the
f .measures they had brought forward, and twitted thorn with being " thin "skinned" and over sensitive. Miv Darvall. in return, administered a severe castigation to Mr. Murray, and explained that the Government had been drived to resign, by the factious and " vindictive" opposition with which they had been met at every point. The House accordingly adjourned till Tuesday. In the mean time Mr.XWper was " sent for ;" and the • Gazette' of Tuesday contained the following announcement :—His Excellency the GovernorGeneral has been pleased to appoint the following gentlemen to the offices mentioned in connection with their respective names, viz:—The lion. Charles Cowper, Esq., to be Colonial Secretary and Registrar of Records of New South Wale's: the lion. James Martin, Esq., to be Attorney-General of "New South Wales; the lion. Robert Campbell, Esq., to be Colonial Treasurer, and Collector of Internal Revenues of New South Wales ; also, to establish a separate Public Department, to be called the " Department for Lauds and Public Work." His Excellency has further, with the advice of the Council, lieen pleased to appoint the lion. Terence Aubrey Murray, Esq.. to be Secretary for Lands and Public Works."
