VITHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of ? f Thomas Gore Bkowne, Esquire, Companion of the most honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Cdramarider-in-Chief in and over the islands of New Zealand, &c, &c, bearing date the Eighth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six, hath been directed to me, Chabxes Christopher Bowen, Esquire, as Eeturning Officer for the Christchurcb Country District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indiffer- - entlj', and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the Christchureh Country District, in the room of Dingley Askham Brittin, Esquire, resigned:, Now,-therefore, I, the said Chaki.es Chkistobhek" Bowax, Esquire, Reluming1 Officer- for* the 'Chrfctehurch Country District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice- that a public meeting of the Electors of tbe Christchureh Country District will be hold en] at the Offices of the Provincial Government, in the town of Christchurch, en Monday, the 13th 'day of October next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the Christchureh Country District, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Tuesday, the 14tb day of October next, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christcburch ; in the Police Office, at Lytteltdn ; and at Mr. r ß!ack's Store, Kaiapoi: the voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock, a.m. of tbe said day, and. to close at four o'clock p.m., of the same day.
