HER MAJESTY THREATENED BY A MANIAC.
On Thursday, the 13th of March, Mr. Jardine, solicitor to the Treasury, accompanied by Sergeant Locker, of the detective police, proceeded to St. Albans for the purpose vf inquiring- into the conduct of a Mr. C. Parker, of that town, who has recently addressed two letters to her Maiesty describing himself as the prophet Elijah, ;nd asserting ids right to the Crown, ;uid also eg riing her Majesty to surrender her rights mil dignities to him as the prophet Elijah, ai the same time threatening her Majesty that if siie refused iie should command it by main force at the point of the bayonet, and she must take the consequences when he came to the throne. The second 'letter, which was dated the 4th of March, did not hold out any personal threat. The unfortunate gentleman having been taken to the station-.louse, the Mayor (Mr. Richardson) and Mr. Laugridge attended and proceeded to take evidence respecting his delusions, and a full description of Iris s range conduct during the last twelve inon hs in particular. Mrs. Wacket, with whom he was lodging, spoke to her knowledge of his sending the letters, but stated he was always labouring under the delusion of greatness and power, fie was not vicious, but of a good disposition. Dr. J. P. 2s. Nicholson then examined the patient in a room adjoining, anil on his return gave it as his opinion that the man was labouring under delusions, and was of an unsound slate of mind and required to be under some control. Lipscombe, Mr. Parker addressing thebeiich,said God had instructed him to inform them that he was the prophet Elijah, and that he was mentioned in the second aud last verses of the Old Testament and in Revelations; he also stated that God intended to confer upon him unlimited wealth and absolute power in the country. The required forms were then signed by the'magistr-ues for his removal to Bethlehem Lunatic Asviuin. He was removed the same
