Province of Canterbury to Wit : — WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esqr., Superintendent of the said Frsvince, bearingdate the 17th day of June, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six, hath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq , as Retuniin"--officer.for the Town of Lyttelton, in the said Province, commanding me to cause an election to be held for the return of a member to serve in the Provincial Council for the Town of Lyttelton, aforesaid, in the room of" Henry Sewell, Esq., resigned; NOW, therefore, I hereby give notice, that a public meeting of the electors of the Town of Lyttelton, will be holden at the Police office, in the town of Lyttelton, on Friday, the 25th day of July next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating One Person, to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Lyttelton : and in the event of. a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Saturday,.the 26th day of July, next, at the said Police offices. The voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock, a.m., of the said day, and to close at 4 o'clock, P.jr., of the same day. Charles Christopher Bowen, Returning Officer. Government Offices. IJamks Edward Fitz Gerald, Su- •, perintendent of the Province of Canterbury, do hereby in pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf by the Regulations for the sale, letting and occupation of the Waste Lands of the Crown, Proclaim and Declare that the lands hereinafter described shall be reserved for the following purposes;—that is to say (I.)— Ten acres (more or less), situated at Little Akaroa, Banks' Peninsula, being bounded on the northwest by the Reserve of sixty-six feet above high watermark ; on the southwest by section 309 A; on the north-east by section 409; and on the south-east by a continuation of the road running south westerly through section 409 and numbered 90 on the authenticated map in the La-.d Office, signed by the Chief Surveyor, setting out and describing the freehold land in Little Akaroa:—to be reserved for a Church and School. (2,)— Fifty acres (more or less) included between the Salt Water Creek, the east boundary of the Great North Road, and the River Ashley:-to be reserved for the purpose of establishing and maintaining a Ferry and House of Accommodation at tiie Salt Water Creek.
