Horses.—Messrs. Martyn and Schroder report that the horse market during the last fortnight has not materially altered, and prices generally may be quoted the same for the hist month past. We have disposed of several large lots, both publicly and privately. The fourth and fifth draft in the estate of the late Thomas Bray, Esq, consisting of 120 head of young stock, averaged £7 lis. ; and the remaining, with right of brand, to be collected on the stations, guaranteed at 140 head, at £7. For he.vy draught there is an increased demand, a reaction having taken place in the Melbourne market; and this description of stock is likely to raise in value, if stanch and quiet. First-rate town-made gig horses are more wanted than any other class of horses, but for some time past have been very scarce ; good hacks up to weight are still enquired for. Looking forward to the approaching season, we are inclined to think that the horse market upon the whole will considerably improve, but this opinion must exclude ordinary Hsrht' stock, which is almost unsaleable. Much difficulty occurs in selecting suitable stock for the New Zealand market, owing to this latter delect. The thoroughrbred entire Young Camden, bred by Messrs. Macarthur, of Caamden, was sold privately for shipment. The Sunar Company's quotations are as follows : Lotf an I .Snowdrop, £52; Cossipore, £49; Crystal £47 to £19; No. 1 pieces, £46 ; bastards, £42 ; treacle, £20 ; Pampaiura, £36; W. I. rum, 30 o.p. 6s. ;10 0.p., 55.; colonial (duty paid), 14s. 3d. for 28 o.p.
Groceries.—Trade continues brisk, with a fair demand, at paying rates, for suitable and wellselected goods. At present, the imports, although large, are by no means in excess of our requirements ; and, notwithstanding the heavy shipments which have come to hand during the last ten days—owing to several vessels long overdue, and others making very rapid passages—we have no reason to anticipate any decline in prices unless importers, eager to realise, press their goods upon the market, with a determination to sell regardless of cost.
Oilmen's Stores-—Although by one or two vessels several large invoices have arrived, by the others the imports are comparatively trifling, and from the advices which would reach England after January as to the stocks and prices of pickles and bottled fruits, we can hardly look for any large supplies of these articles. Other items continue to pay for importing if well-assorted and first-class goods.
Coffee —There is already some speculation in the article, which t'>e fact of there being none on board the Adele, arrived from Manila to-day, will only tend to strengthen. Stocks are already low, with a large consumption, and prices high in Melbourne, with every prospect of a short supply. The Adele arrived to-day from Manila, with a cargo consisting of 20,814 bags sugar, and 250 cases of cigarsThere «ere 235 bales of wool catalogued in this day's sale, all of which were sold, being put up without reserve. The bulk of the wool consisted of New Zealand, and the prices obtained for thi> description, and also for Northern wools, were considered satisfactors'. A parcel of combing wool in first-rate condition, from the Bathurst country, realized Is. 7d. per lb.
In the tallow market the transactions were limited to the town-trade, but prices are not so firm. Mutton in paunches has been cleared privately aid at auction, at 42s per cwt.
Sheepskins and Hides are both in demand, and prices remain without alteration. Stock and Stations —No good properties offering—sooo sheep in the Wide Bay district, with two blocks given in, realised ss. 9d. per ht-ad.
Store Sheep and Cattle.—Store wethers are still in demand, and command good prices. For cattle also there are more enquiries, and we have reason to anticipate doing a good business with Victoria buyers.
Maize and Hay—For the former there is a steady enquiry at last week's currency ; and in some instances, choice lots of market hay have been sold at an improvement of 20s. to 30s a ton.
Oats and Barley The demand rather exceeds the supply, and superior lots would find ready sale.
Wheat and Flour—Without alteration; late quotations steadily maintained.
