Local Intelligence.

We understand that the remainder of Mr. Moore's cattle which were left unsold at the auction sale, at s ßangiora, on the 21st ult., (about 100 cows and steers) have been disposed of this week by Mr. Thomson, by private contract, at the rate of £12 per head.

We hear that the "Gratitude," Capt. Rogers, hence the 12th ult., for Otago and the Bluff, with passengers, put into Akaroa on Saturday night last. The captain reported having been driven by southerly weather as far north as Cape Palliser, and that he had not been able to get further south than Timaru. Wben off this part of the coast, southerly weather again set in, and compelled "him 'to run into Akaroa. Fresh provisions having been taken on board, the Captain intended to sail for Otago on Wednesday last. Passengers and crew were all well.

The" Mountain Maid," Capt. Peacock, and the " Canterbury," Capt. Hall, were lying- in Akaroa loading for this place, and may shortly be expected.

We have it upon good authority that wheat hence per " Mountain Maid" which was bought in Port Cooper at 6s. 6d. per bushel, was sold in Akaroa at Bs. per bushel. "Very little wheat has been grown there this season.

Timber is to be purchased there for cash, at from 13s. to 15s. per 100 feet. Shingles about 15s. per 1,000. Firewood, delivered at high water mark. 10s. per cord. Cheese was from 9| to lO&d. per lb., and butter from 15d. to IBd., but the supply of the latter very limited.
