Correspondence.
To the Editor of the LyHelton Times. Sir, —In last -Thursday's publication of the '• Standard," is the notice of a writ from Ilis Honor the Superintendent, to elect a representative for the town (I had almost said cit}-) of Christchurch, in the Provincial Council, vacant by the resignation of 11. Packer, Esq. T should he glad to know why such notice lias not appeared in your publication of to-day, as I consider it a neglect of duty, and might lead to some legal question after the flection in case of opposition (which I do not desire to -cc.) I can only assign two reasons, first, either our truly gcod government has taken a sudden fit of economy into their heads, and thought of saving the expense of advertising in the "Times," or, Ul2 duties of our Returning Officer are so numerous, (in which case I would excuse him), that he (bigot to send a copy of the writ to the " Times" for advertisement. I am, Sir, Your obedient seivunt, An Elector. T.yttelton, slh Apiil, 18:Jb\
