sure to learn that there is an immediate prospect of New Zealand being included in the Ccmmercial relations of. the world-renowned " Black Ball" clippers of Messrs. Jixu.cs Baines and Company. From a private letter just received, we have been permitted to make an extract, of which the following is the substance :—" You will be glad to learn that Messrs. James Baines and Co. have advertised the Indian Queen to sail from hither (Liverpool) in September, for New Zealand." The writer adds that the Messrs. Baines are anxious to cultivate a direct trade between Liverpool and New Zealand, and with that view have resolved to adopt a moderate charge for freight and passengers. This is gratifying intelligence. The Indian Qneen,is a noble ship of proved ■ speed, and acknowledged reputation, bavins: been classed with the ja?nes Baines, Marco Polo, Lightning, and others. She is of 1,051 tons register, and is commanded by Captain McKndv. Such a means of intercourse cannot fail to be extremely advantageous to New Zealand, and we heartily hope that the Messrs. Baines will exercise due discrimination in the agents they shall appoint. The Emma, of the White Star Royal Mail line of the Australian packets, will sail on the 20th instant for Melbourne, with the mails of that date. Being a favourite ship in the trade she is rapidly filling; with passengers and carsjo. She will be succeeded by the celebrated Red Jacket, on the 21st September. The Earl of Sefton will carry the mails on the 20th of Oct. — New Zealander. Birth.—On Wednesday last, the wife of James Spowers, Esq., Manager of the Union Bank of Australia, LyHelton, of a son.
