Tlie attention which you have given to the financial eff'airs of the Colony is calculated to be so eminently valuable to this Province, that the loss of your services at the present juncture would be a serious prejudice to the Province of Canterbury. GENTLEMEN, —In compliance with a Requisition, from a numerous body of electors of the Province of Canterbury, requesting me to allow myself to be nominated as one of their Representatives in the approaching Session of the General Assembly, I have determined to defer my return to England, and to offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages at the ensuing election. GENTLEMEN, — When I first stood forward (at your request) as a candidate for the honour of representing yon in the Provincial Council, you may recollect I stated to you my fears, thai my duty towards you would interfere with my clerical duties. Those fears have now been fully realized, the difficulty of providing a substitute, during my absence at the Council^ becoming every day greater, I beg, therefore, forthwith to resign the trust, when T cannot perform its duties to your benefit or mv own satisfaction. In doing so, however, let me assure yon I shall always feel a deep interest in the welfare of Akaroa, though not her representative. I am, dear Sirs, Your obliged servant, William Aylmer.
