GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. New Zealand to frit,— Province of Canterbury, WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Thomas Goue Browne, Esquire, Coropan'°n of the most honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the islands of New Zealand, &c, &c, bearing: date the Fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred aud fifty-five, hath been directed to me, Chari.es Christopher Bowes, Esquire, as Returning: Officer for the town of Chrisichurch, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the roters duly qualified * for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form bj law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for tbe said town of Christen inch, the General Assembly of New Zealand having been dissolved; Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowkn, Esq., Returning Officer for the town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the town of Christchuich, will be bolden in the Market Place of the town of Christchurch. on Tuesday, the 18th day of December, next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the town of Christchurch, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Wednesday, the nineteenth day of December nest, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Ohamber, at Christchurch ; the voting to commence at any lime after nine o'clock, a.m. of the said day, and to close at four o'clock p.m. of the same day.
