We have been requested to insert the following communication from Mi*. Godley, confirming* our announcement of his resignation of the office of Agent to the Province of Canterbury:— London, July 2, 1555. Si,-.—l regret to be obliged to inform you, thai in consequence of my having accepted an arduous responsible oliLu: in tiie War Department, I shall he quite unable to discharge the duties of Agent to the Province of Canterbury, aud that I feel it my duty therefoie to resign that office. In doing so, sir, I need not, I am sure, tell you thai my interest in tbe welfare and progress of Canteibury continues unabated, and will ever continue one of the deepest *entiments in my heart. PKorosKi. Town Ham. at CHiusrciini*cii. — A meeting was held at the White Han. Christclmrcli, on Monday evening last, to devise measures for the erection of a building in the town of Christchurob. to serve as a Chamber of Commerce, a Literary and Scientific Institution, and other purposes. The amount proposed to be raised for this purpose was £SOO. We understand thai £300 was promised at the i__.v*;ug.
