GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. New Zealand to icit, — Province of Canterbury. '^J'HEREAS a Writ, under the hand of ' ' Thomas Gork Browse, Esquire, Companion of the most honourable Order of the Ball), Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the islands of New Zealand, &c., <See. bearing date the Fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, hath beeu directed to me, Charles Christopher Buwes, Esquire, as Heturning Officer for the town of Chrisichurch, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner ami form bj law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the said town of Christchurch, the General Assembly of New Zealaud having been dissolved; Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., Returning Officer for the town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the tovirn of Christchuich, will be holden in the Market Place of the town of Cbristchureb, on Tuesday, the 18th day of December, next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the town of Christchurch, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Wednesday, the nineteenth day of December nest, in the"lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Chvist"cLurch : the voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock, a.m. of the said day, and to close at four o'clock p.m. of the same dayChart/es Christopher Bowen, Returning Officer.
