The Lyttelton Times.
Wednesday, Nov. 7
By the various vessels whose arrivals we record to-day we are in the receipt of European intelligence to the 20th of July. The news from England, is politicallyimportant— Lord J- Ru-ssell had been forced to resign his seat in the Palmerston administration. From the Crimea no news of importance had been received. A rumour was going the round of the camp to the effect that General Pelissier had been censured by the Emperor Napoleon for the ill-projected attack on the 18th, and that his retirement from the command was anticipated. General Bosquet, it is also rumoured, was to succeed him. The latest particulars of the siege "will be found below, extracted from the letter of the correspondent of the " Sydney Morning Herald." In Kamschatka the Russians have abandoned the fortress of Petropaulovsky, and retired to one on the river Amoor, where they have concentrated their forces. The troops and the inhabitants of Petropaulovski were embarked on board the Aurora and Dwina ; owing to a dense fog, these vessels escaped the vigilance of two English war-steamers stationed tor observation within a few miles of the coast. The Act of the Imperial Parliament granting a Constitution to New South Wales, has received the assent of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Bishop of New Zealand arrived here on Monday last in the Southern Cross. It will be seen by an advertisement in our columns, that his Lordship proposes to hold confirmations on Sunday next, both in Lyttelton and Christchurch, and that a Church meeting will be held at Lyitelton on Thursday evening next, when, we understand, several important resolutions affecting' Church matters in this Province will be submitted.
