GENERAL' ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. New Zealand to wit,—Province of Canterbury. WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Thomas Gore Browne, Esquire, Companion of the most honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in aud over the islands of New Zealand, &c, Sic, bearing date the Fifteenth day of September, in tbe year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, hath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bow en, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the town of Christchurch, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected', by and from amongst the voters duly qualified' for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the said town of Christchurch,' the General Assembly of New Zealand having been dissolved ; Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowks, Esq., Returning Officer for the town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the town of Christchuich, will be holden in the Market Place of the town of Christchurch, on Tuesday, the 18th day of December, next, at noon, for the purpose oi nominating One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the town of Christchurch, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Wednesday, the nineteenth day of December next, iv the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christchurch; the voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock, a.m. of the said day, and to close at four o'clock p.m. of the same day.
