Railway from Sydney to Parramatta.
On Saturday last, the first train ran from Sydney to Parramatta, and a new and proml era in our Colonial History lias thus commenced. The train consisted of engine, tender, truck, three passenger carriages, and a lnprgasfe van ; and the distance was done under 40 minutes. Several of the directors and their friends enjoyed the trial trip, and Mr. Randle, the enterprising contractor, invited them to a handsome luncheon on their return to Sydney. On Tuesday, the Colonial Treasurer "and a select party availed
themselves of a second trij>; and on Thursday* His Excellency, Lady Denison, and suite, did the line the honor of travelling by the last experimental train. On each occasion all went off satisfactorily, and the utmost praise was awarded to Mr Ran die, Mr. Wallace, and-the other gentlemen connected with the construction of this important public work. Full speed was not attained, as many portions of the earthrbanking had not had time to settle, hut the carriages ran very smoothly. We notice that the Paramattonians are petitioning for the extension of the terminus, and trust they will succeed. The Government has also given notice of a continuation of the line to Liverpool.— lllustrated Sydney Journal.
