HHHE First Stone of the Building of the ■4- Lodge of Unanimity, No. 879, will be laid with the usual ceremonies, on Thursday, the 25th October, on which occasion the Brethren will assemble at their Temporary Lodge Room, Brother Alport's Store, at 10 o'Clock, a.m. All Brethren in the Province are invited to assist. Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. /~^N the arrival of the Lord Bishop of ■ >-' Npw Zealand, which is expected early iii the month of November, it is proposed to hold a Meeting of persons desirous of becoming members of a Canterbury Branch of the Society for promoting Christian Knowledge. A supply of hooks and tracts, bibles, prayerbooks, &c, has just been received from tbe parent Society, and a depot is established at Mr. Thompson's in Cashel Street. Steps have been taken to obtain a farther supply. Intending subscribers are requested to send in their names to Mr. F. Thompson, Cashel street, Christchurch, or to the Rev. B. W. Dudley, Lyttelton. SMITH begs to inform the in- • habitants of Kaiapoi, that he has just received from England, a consignment of goods, consisting of, —castor oil, Epsom salts, senna leaves, rhubarb, magnesia, cream tn'rtar, adhesive plaster, Persian sherbet, bail* oil and perfumes, pomades, all kinds of essences, lemon, cold cream, carbonate of soda, baking powder, merschaum and other pipes, fancy boxes, all kinds of combs and brushes, stationery, mixed and other spices, shaving cream, mirrors, cutlery, Morocco purses, Port-monies, blacking, honey and Windsor soap, violet powder, Burn linament, Holloway's and other pills and ointment, salts, &c. &c. LYTTELTON and PORT VICTORIA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
