GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. ! New Zealand to wit,—Province of Canterbury. -VST HERE AS a Writ, under the hand of VV Thomas Cork Browne, Esquire, Companion of the most honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the islands of New Zealand, &c, &C., hearing date the Fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, bath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bowen, Esquire, as Returninsr Officer for the town of Christchurch, requirinir and commanding me to cause to be elected", by and from amongst the voters duly qualified" for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in .msnner and form bj lawprescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the said town of Christchurch, the General Assembly of New Zealand having been dissolved ; Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bow-en, Esq., Returning Officer fur the town of j Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of tbe said j recited writ, give notice that a public meeting \ of the Electors of ihe to*.7ii of Christchurch, will beholden in the Market Place of the town of Christchurch, on Tuesday, the 18th day of December, next, at noun, "for the purpose of nom'*naiing One Person to serve as a member of the House ot Representatives, for the town of Chris*church, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place^on Wednesday, the nineteenth.day of December nest, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christchurch; the voting lo commence, at. any time after nine o'clock, a.m. of the said day, and to close at four o'clock p.m. of the same day.
