LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

New Warehouse at the Ferry.—We notice with much pleasure the cxci lions Messrs. Le Cren and Brown are making in providing store room for our surplus agricultural produce at the Christchurch Ferry. The warehouse they are erecting will hold orer 350 tons of produce, and every facility will, we understand, be given to the loading mid unloading of carts. The arrangements for discharging cargo from the boats and for loading from the warehouse appear to be well designed. Another such a warehouse lower down the road, and we may postpone the tramway for another year or two without iujury to any portion of the settlers of Canterbury. Lyttelton Colonists' Society and Literary Institution. —Meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 25, Dr. Donald, president, in the chair. After the usual preliminary business, the President announced the present from Capt. Simeon of a complete file of the Lyttelton Times from its commencement, for which a vote of thanks was warmly given. The- president, vice-president, the secretary, and Messrs. Cotterill, Alport, and Latter were appointed a committee to purchase books as opportunity offers and the funds permit.—Mr. J. Q. Fyfe then delivered a lecture on the " Ancient Inhabitants of Great Britain, their manners, customs, institutions, particularly Druidism, and their history to the end of the Norman dominion." The lecture was drawn up with very great care, and every available source of information must have been industriously sought for. The lecturer was warmly applauded at the close,
