To the Electors of the Christchurch Country District. Gentlemen, — OWING to Captain Simeon's intended departure, tbe office of resident Magistrate will, j u a short time, become vacant, and it has pleased -His Honor the Superintendent to appoint me as that gentleman's successor. The Law of this Province forbids tbe appointment of a member of the Provincial Council to any office of trustand emolument; it has, therefore, become necessary, in order to enable His Honor to confer this office upon me, that I should resign my seat as one of your Representatives. This I have accordingly done, and I have the honour to offer myself to you as a Candidate for re-election. Trusting that the course hitherto pursued by me, in the Provincial Council, has upon the whole met with your approval, and that you still deem me not unworthy of your confidence, I beg once more to solicit the favour of your support, and I have the honour to remain, Gentlemen, Your obedieut, humble servant, Henkt John Tancred. To the Electors of the Christchurch Country District. Gentlemen, — The Honorable James Stuart Wortley, having resigned bis seat in the General Assembly, I beg to offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages. •I am'aware that I have no past services to record to justify me in taking this step, but having resided amongst you for about three years, the least I can say is that I am no stranger to you. If you think fit to elect me as your representative, I will pledge myself to attend the sittings of the Assembly ; and when there, I will use my best abilities, regardless of personal considerations, to promote the welfare and interest of tbe colony, and of this province in particular. The limits of an address will not permit me to comment upon many questions of political moment, but at a future opportunity I hope to give you every satisfactory assurance.
