By the Sea Serpent we have received a copy of the Wellington Independent of Saturday last, from which we give the following extracts; Intelligence has been received in town that t he schooner Queen of the South is on shore in ,
a small bay to the south of Cape Campbell. She has not sustained much damage, and hopes are entertained that she will be got afloat again without much trouble. By way of Wairau, we have received intelM-? gence from Nelson to the 25th ult. The hrigantine Marchioness, Capt. Kreeft, hence the 2lst, called at Nelson on the 24th ult., and reported having seen a wreck 60 miles from Wellington Heads. The barque Waterwitch, Capt. Adams, sailed from Nelson lor Sydney on the 22nd ult. Tiie schooner Taranaki, for whose safety fears were entertained, from the length of time that had elapsed since she left Nelson for this port, arrived in this harbour on Thursday last, from New Plymouth. It appears that after leaving Nelson, the Taranaki had a favourable passage until nearly off the mouth of this harbour, when beinjr caught in a N.VV. gale, she drifted nearly to Poit Cooper. She came back again with a S. E. wind, which freshened to a gale, and having stood too much to the eastvvard, miss -d the port, and was compelled to stand to the northward. She ultimately picked herself up at Auckland, after beinsj nine days out frorp Nelson. From Auckland, the Taranaki proceeded to New Plymouth, and is last from that port, having made the passajre from thence in three days. The brig Lord Montgomery, also bound from Nelson to this port, and for whose safety the most serious apprehensions have been entertained, arrived at Auckland on the same day as the Taranaki, having been out 35 days from Nelson.
