July 8, brig Moumtain Maid, 192 tons, Peacock, from Wellington. Passengers— Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt, Mr. and Mrs. Alport and children, Mr. and Mrs. Leitb, Miv and Mrs. Fox, Messrs. D'Oyley,Rosseter, Haylock, Pritcbard, Gordon. Deighton, and Coster. IMPORTS. In the Mountain Maid(.A\ port, agent), general assorted cargo from Wellington and Sydney. We heartily welcome the arrival of Messrs. Grubb and Marshall's new schooner, the Canterbury, which this linn has recently built at Pigeon Bay. The Canterbury was originally latd down as a coasting steamer, to be worked by a screw propeller, but the necessary machinery not having arrived from England, she will for the present trade around the coast under sail. This addition to our coasting craft will be of valuable assistance to all parties in Canterbury, and we trust the time is not far distant when the original intentions of the persevering owners may be fully carried out. The schooner Sea Serpent, which was sold by public auction on Tuesday last, by Mr. James Smith, realised the sum of £725, the purchaser being- Mr. Thacker, of Christclmreh. We understand that her owner intends to make her a regular trader .between Lyttelton and Christchurch.—•Wellington Independent. By the Mountain Maid, which came into Port Lyttelton on Sunday last, we have Wellington and Taranaki intelligence, but no newspapers from Auckland. The Mountain Maid has brought on the mail of the New Era, which ' vessel arrived at Wellington from England direct on the"26th ult. Eleven cabin and sixteen intermediate passengers are for this province. We subjoin th»ir names : — Mr. and Mrs..Allen and five children, Mr. and Mrs. Alport and five children, Robert Doyley, W. Fleming, Joseph, Ellen, John, and Ellen Maria Deighton, T. Houghton, Elizabeth Dover, Mr. and Mrs. Lorimer, and three children, Charlotte Brebner, Mary Breb'ner, Chas. L. Haylock. The following cargo is for Canterbury:—J. Sidey,. 10 qr. casks British spirits; Gould and Miles, one case tobacco ; G. S. Leech, 1 case cigars, 4 casks hardware, 2 cases clocks, 7 casks ironmongery, 1 case harrows, 1 do. flannel, 2 do., 4 do., 10 boxes candles, 1 case, 2 casks, 1 bale, T box, 1 case saws, 30 do. brandy; Bhkiston & Co., 25 cases brandy, *2 boxes tobacco, 4 casks loaf sugar, 2 do. ironmongery, 7 bundles, 1 casebooks ; R. The following vessels are advertised for New Zealand in the Times of the 14th March, viz.: Messrs. Young & Co.'s Line. — For Auckland—The ship •' Duke of Portland," G. F. Seymour, to sail 24ih March. The " Duke of Portland" was under engagement to convey the Right Rev. the Lord Bishop of New Zealand and suite to Auckland. For Auckland and Canterbury—(Under engagement to convey His Excellency the Gover-

norand suite)—ihe clipper ship "Merchantman, 1018 tons, I. Grey, commander, to be despatched from the E. I. Docks on the Ist of May, calling at Plymouth. The " Merchantman" is represented as being a superb and unrivalled passenger ship, and was laid on the berth expressly to convey the Governor to New Zealand. Messrs. H. H. Willis & C'b.'s Line.— For Wellington, Nelson, and other ports —The " Sir Allan McNab," 840 tons, R. Reuner, to leave 3ionilon 25th March. For Wellington and other Ports—The ship " Marion," 1000 tons, C. G. Petherbridfje, to sail on the 15th April. For Canterbury and other Ports— The " Caroline Agnes," 800 tons, J. Ferguson, to sail on the Ist April. . For Auckland and Neio Plymouth—l he " Ejrmonl,'' 1000 tans, S. G. Gibson, to sail on the sth April; and the ship " Joseph Fletcher," TOGO tons, J. Foster, to sail on 10th June. The ship " Stnart Wortley," 873 ton?, George 'Simson, has also been laid on for Auckland, by Sir G. E. Hodgkinson & Co., 74, Coruhill.
