A NOTICE having appeared in the " GdX3L vernment Gazette," dated the 271h November, .1854, warning all persons not to encroach on "the land reserved for public roads, by digging ditches, or erecting banks thereon ; and representations having been made to the Government by persons desiious of fencing in lands fronting on the public roads, that they are willing to erect such fences as shall tend to improve the public road adjoining : His Honor the Superintendent diiects it to be further notified, that Any person, who is desirous of erecting a ' fence on the boundary of a public road,- may, by application to the Government, receive an or- 1 der in writing from the Provincial Engineer, stating what alterations he will be allowed 10 , make in the surface of the land reserved for the road adjoining his fence ; and that any.person encroaching on the public road by taking auy soil therefrom, or erecting any bank thereon, except so far as shall be set foith in such written order, will be prosecuted as the law directs.
