CANTERBURY Local Steam Navigation Company. A T a Meeting held at the Golden Fleece -£*- Hotel, at Christchmcb, on Saturday, 7th April, it was resolved, that the following outline should be published in the local papers, viz., Transit from Uie Port to the Plains. "It being necessary to secure a fair trial of the practicability of this important undertaking within 12 months from this date, it is proposed to form an Association, to be called the Canterbury Local Steam Navigation Company; to issue shares not exceeding 3,000 @ 40s. each, (members to be guaranteed from any further claim or liability,) and that a call of 15s. per share, be made payable thereon by or before 31st May, 1855." " That James Spowers, and Joseph Longden, Esqrs., with Capt. Beswick, be requested to act as Trustees, until the officers and managers (all houorary,) be duly appointed at the first general meeting of subscribers, and that all monies for shares be paid into the Lyttelton branch of the Union Bank of Australia, and' do stand-in the names of the said Trustees in the bank books to the credit of the said association. " I hat immediate steps betaken tp ensure subscribers to this project, and that as soon as the sura of £1,500 be received, application be made to the Provincial Government, soliciting, that £i,OOO voted in aid of this object be added to the funds of this. association, and be either paid to the hands of its trustees or an assurance given, that the said amount shall be forthcoming as soon as the association be prepared to arrange for the hire, or purchase, of the first steamer required by this association." " That when £2,500 shall be thus secured as an available fund fairly to work out the purposes of the association, a general meeting of the shareholders,.be held, and officers and 'managers (all honorary) be chosen. The board of managers to consist of 16 members (four each from the shareholders residing at Christchurch, Lyttelton, Kaiapoi, and the country,) to meet monthly, by public notice. Seven members competent to business, and meetings to be held for the first year at Christchurch." "That it be strongly recommended to the managers as early as possible to take measures for the completion of the hire or the purchase of the most eligible steam boat for transit of passengers and cargo to and from the plains, whether effected in this province; or other ports, and subsequently if necessary to pufe forward the construction of another boat in England in order more fully to realize the entire objects of this association, viz.:—a regular, frequent and economical communication with Christchurch, Xiuapoi, and the coast."
