LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

The foilowiug notices of appointments are extracted from the " Provincial Government Gazette," published on the 14th inst.:— Air. C. C. Bowen, to be Clerk to the Bench of Magistrates, at Chvistchurch, in the room of T. B. Keele, resigned.

Mr. C. Meldrum, to bean inspector of Sheep introduced into the Province via Nelson, when Sir Wm. Cong re ye is absent in the southern portion of the Province. Mr. Genet, to be pound-keeper at Lyttelton, in the room of Mr. Read, resigned. Resident Magistrate's Court. —Two seamen, named Rosamond and Brian, belonging to the William Hyde were charged by the captain with mutinous conduct, and with assaulting him and the mate. On the part of the .mate some provocation was proved. Sentence, 3 months, and hard labour. Henry Meleroy and R. Peterson, two seamen belonging to the same ship, were charged as accordingJand abetting the above in their assault. Sentence, one month with hard labour. Lyttelton Colonist's Society. —At a meeting of this Society, held on Tuesday last to discuss what measures ought to be taken to collect subscriptions towards the support of the Patriotic Fund, it was moved by Mr. Graham, and seconded by Rev. G. Cotterill, "That a Public Meeting having been called to carry out this object, it will be unnecessary to enter upon the discussion of ii on the present occasion." Chiustchtjrch.—Since the last meeting of the Council, ;ve have been informed that Mr. Guise Brittan's house, has been taken by the government for the purposes of a Council Chamber and Government offices. The house has been found to afford every convenience, and instructions have been given to the Provincial Engineer to prepare it for the immediate reception of the Council. It is expected to be in readiness by Tuesday night.
