■, Many of our readers will be surprised at being told that the earthquake which has proved so destructive at Wellington and at the other settlements in the neighbourhood of Cook's Straits was felt in Otago, but so slightly as to be totally imperceptible to those inexperienced in such matters. — Otago Witness. We understand that the Provincial Council Ordinance, passed during this Session, has been assented to, but that no dissolution of the present Council has been officially announced. We are therefore in the dark as to the prospect of a new election. £1463, the Otago sliare of the surplus taken for the purposes of the General Government have been returned. lb.
