In the brief limits of an address you will not expect me to enter into a general explanation of my principles; l>ut if I am considered worthy "'of becoming one of your representatives, I shall endeavour, to the best <>f my ability, to promote your interests by a faithful :in<i imlo-f pendent discharge of the trust you will confide to me. I should advocate the utmost economy in the public expenditure consistent with the efficiency of tlie several departments of lh<; Provincial Government, to which I should cheerfully extend my support, if the measures it proposed were calculated to promote the welfare of the settlement. In reference to the question which is now prominently before the public, (I nisan- the appropriation of the Waste Lands,) I should support the' principle contained in the scheme, proposed by the Government, but in the regulations themselves- I should advocate certain modifications, and particularly I should labour to secure thai a certain portion of the rate proposed to be created for provincial revenue shall be set apart fur the promotion of education and the extension of Christianity; wl for the endowment of the Church of England, because I believe that slate endowments for any ■■.particu-lar-religious community are attended with serious evil, but for the creation of a fund from ' which, in the primitive state of our settlement, aid could be extended to all Christian denominations in their just proportion for the extension of religions truth ._ As soon as [ am relieved from the pressing duties of the season, I shall seek an opportunity of meeting yon, when I shall be happy to afford you a fuller explanation of my view?.
