Province of Canterbury to Wit:—WHEREAS a writ under the hand of James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esq., Superintendent pf the said Province, bearing date the 12th day of February, in llie year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, hath been directed to me, Charles Simeon, Esq._ as reiurning-officer for tbe town of Christchurch' in the^said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by ami frcui amongst the voters duly qualified for'that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in form and manner by law prescribed, One Person '"to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christchnrch, in place of Thomas Cass, Esq., resigned; NOW therefore, I, the said Charles Simeon, Esq., returning-officer for the town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice, that a public meeting of the electors ofthe town of Christchurch will be holdeu iv the Market Place of the town of Christchurch, on-Thursday, tbe Bth day of March,next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christehurch: and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the 9th day of March next; in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber at Christchurch.
