MAGISTRATE'S COURT, KAIAPOI.
January 23rd, 1855. Present—John Hall, Esq., and C. O. Torlesse, Esq. Solomon Pa r. Hanmer. —George Hnmner was charged by Solomon, an aboriginal native, with having1 used threatening language to him at the Golden Fleece Hotel, in Christchureh, on account of Solomon having assisted the Constable at Kaiapoi in arresting some runaway sailors. The case was proved, and Hanmer was ordered to enter into recognizances to keep the peace for sis months, and to pay costs. Solomon Pa v. Benjamin George. —Tn this case Solomon swore that on his return to Kaiapoi, after assisting Mr. Revel to take the runaway sailors to Christchurch, he met George at the Hotel at Kaiapoi, and that the latter assaulted him, and was told by Mr. Hamlet to desist.^ Mr. Hamlet, on being sworn, stated that he had no recollection of witnessing any such assault, oi* speaking to George as above stated. The case was dismissed. It was intimated that in future a Magistrate's Court would be held atfKaiapoi once a month.
