Several people mention having ?eit other minor shocks during the night None f them were violent, but the first was of longer ■S iriiioii than any we have yet experienced c Several pendulum clocks were stopped % v the motion. Many old settlers say that they ,1, |10t remember an earthquake before of such • on ,r duration in New Zealand. The wind was blowing in strong gusts from the N.W., and 'w continued in that quarter ever since, the weather being oppressive and sultry. We have just heard the iivbt shock at Christclmrch was felt very severely.
